In 2007, The Township of Baraga created a Land Use Plan. This document was designed to give direction and scope to the formation of the Baraga Township Zoning Ordinance. The plan was developed with the present and future health, safety, and general welfare of the Township residents and patrons in mind. Land Use Plan The Land Use Plan is a guide for land use for the future; the Zoning Ordinance regulates the use of land in the present. The Land Use Plan is not a binding, legal regulation; the Zoning Ordinance is a law that must be followed by the Township and its residents. In 2008, The Township of Baraga updated the previous Zoning Ordinance to establish zoning districts and regulations governing the development and use of land within Baraga Township, Michigan. The changes were in accordance with the provisions of the MICHIGAN ZONING ENABLING ACT, Public Act 110 of 2006, as amended, to provide for regulations governing nonconforming uses and structures; to provide for a Board of Appeals and for its powers and duties; to provide for permits; to establish and provide for the collection of fees; to provide for the administration of this Ordinance and for the official whose duty it shall be to enforce the provisions thereof; to provide penalties for the violation of the Ordinance; and to provide for conflicts with other ordinances or regulations.
